This is posted in the Green Building section as well!!!!
First off, I have to tell you all up front that I am working to become a distributor/rep for this product.
I have worked with many building materials in my day. As a matter of fact the first home that I built out of an alternative building material was 1994. So I have been around the industry for a while.
I have not come in contact with a material that covered all the bases until now.
It is called Durisol. http://www.durisolbuild.com
Durisol in a quick summary is an oversized cinderblock only instead of cinder as its aggregate it utilizes recycled wood chips that are bonded in portland cement and then it is formed into a block and used to build just about anything. Just imagine the ease of building the older cinderblock houses that you see, only now they are insulated to the teeth, fireproof, soundproof and they breathe!!!! That last part is the best in my book as I have a son with Asthma and you have all heard about how toxic our homes get in the winter because there is no air exchange.
I am not sure how technical I should get in this description, but the block is absolutely great. I have worked with it, and it goes together great, it has all kinds of great flexible characteristics and it is a concrete and rebar structure when you are done. You can't get any better than that for earthquakes, hurricanes etc. It is adaptable for any architectural style, and is great to use in both commercial and residential.
Did I mention that it is very competitively priced as well.
It is competive for a couple of reasons,
1. This block, once in place, takes the place of many different subs and materials. Once in place, it has now taken care of your exterior vapor barrier, your exterior sheeting, your 2x6 structural framing, your insulation, and your drywall. Your home or project is now ready for exterior stucco, and interior plaster. Therefore, once this block is in place you can see how many steps can be skipped. Saving time and money.
2. With the price of lumber and labor continuing to rise, Durisol, consisting of 85% recycled material (the wood chips) and portland cement, you can't go wrong. At least not by my calculations anyway.
So far there are just no downsides. Having worked with the material myself and knowing the problems and setbacks of other materials similarly touted in the past. I was pleasantly surprised that Durisol had put together all the pieces of the puzzle and with their tech support and engineers on staff to advise you along the way, they have done a great job at setting this up to be used by both construction proffesionas and potential Owner Builders.
So far I am really pumped about this product.
Let me know if any of you have any questions or interest in this block. I really think that this product will have a wonderful effect on our construction industry.
Just PM me and I will fill you in on more of the technical data as there is a lot more things to talk about but you get the picture.
