Crown Molding

Crown Molding

Postby LanaWilliams on Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:19 am

I love your segments on KSL Studio 5. I really, really want to put crown molding throughout my house. The expense is somewhat prohibitive w/o doing a room at a time. Is this a project I can learn to do. I am very particular and would not want it to look like a do-it-yourself project. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again -

Lana,
Thank you very much for your comments. We really enjoy doing the Studio 5 segments. They are a lot of fun.
Couple of questions for you on your crown moulding,,,,
1. What part of the crown moulding job is preventing you from doing it now?
a. Is it the tools that you would have to use?
b. Is it the cost of materials?
c. Not knowing where to start?
d. Is the room particularly difficult?(lots of corners or strange lines in the ceiling)
2. What is your fear about it looking like a DIY job?
a. The corners not fitting together tight enough?
b. The sanding and painting of them once they are up?
3. How high are the ceilings in the rooms you want to do?

Let me know a little more about what you are thinking and the type of room you want to start in. I can then layout a plan of action that will suit you and your room.
I look forward talking with you more.

All the above - The rooms are 9 ft. tall, no odd roof lines. Rooms connect in foyer. I had molding installed in a previous home - not a great job. The corners didn't meet tightly. I'd love a plan - I think I can rent or borrow whatever tools I might need. Thanks again for any help.

Ok, let me put some ideas together and get a plan for you. We will see what we can do.
BTW, where do you live roughly. Not an address just general area. Sometimes if we are close by we can stop by and get a feel for the project.
Give me a couple of days to put together a few ideas and we will get something up here for you.
Best of luck
